Quarantine
Quarantine refers to the prevention of movement of seed from an infested area to a relatively clean area so as to prevent its spread to the clean area. Quarantine is effected through enactment of relevant laws. There are a large number of viruses e.g. APLV, APMV, TRV, PMTV, PVV, PVT, PVYNTN, PYV, PYVV which do not occur in India and whose entry must be checked. These viruses if introduced may seriously affect potato industry in India by way of quantitative/qualitative yield losses. The entry of these viruses into the country can be effectively checked through quarantine.
